Further Details: Born in Seneca Township in Upper Canada on the 14th October 1848, the son of Alfred E. Walker. From 1868 he worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce and in 1886 he became the general manager of the bank, and in 1907 its president. He was a prolific writer on financial matters, and his works included a 'History of Canadian Banking' (1896). He also had an avid interest in art and helped to start the National Art Gallery in Ottawa. He also had links with the University of Toronto, the Canadian Institute and the Royal Society of Canada. He was married to Mary Alexander and had four sons and three daughters. He died in Toronto in 1924
