Further Details: Born in England around 1718 he emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1752 and he then settled in Montreal in 1763, where he became a merchant engaged in the fur-trade. He became a justice of the peace and was assault by the military, an incident which resulted in the loss of an ear. In 1774 America invaded Quebec and he joined up with them, returning to America in 1776.
